Why I Created Hassett Strategies
I established Hassett Strategies to help states, communities, and service organizations strengthen human services and build crisis agility. My goal is to translate policy into practical solutions that work on the ground, especially when communities face their greatest challenges. This commitment grows out of more than three decades of service with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where I worked to integrate behavioral health, anti-poverty programs, and emergency management to better support individuals and families in times of need.

Leadership History

-
Public Service Mission – With more than three decades in federal human services, I’ve worked to ensure that programs remain centered on fairness, resilience, and long-term recovery for communities in need.
-
Disaster Leadership – From September 11 and Hurricane Katrina to COVID-19, I’ve led national responses to the ripple effects of crisis, integrating behavioral health, community services, and recovery support.
-
Policy to Practice – I’ve helped translate complex federal programs into workable solutions for states, tribes, counties, nonprofits, and the technical assistance networks that serve them. My focus has always been on problem-solving to break through administrative inertia and improve systems.
-
Community Systems – Drawing on experience with programs like the Community Services Block Grant, Social Services Block Grant, and LIHWAP, I understand how essential safety net systems adapt—and must adapt further—under the stress of disaster.
-
Broad Experience – Before federal service, I worked in residential treatment, community health, legislative advocacy, and local United Way. This grounding has kept me connected to the frontlines of service delivery throughout my career.
